Pinkoro Shrine

Pinkoro Shrine is a place to worship dedicated to praying for living a long time with strong bodies, being happy throughout one's entire lifetime up until the last moment before dying. In days gone by it was customary here in Inasono-dani valley to hang thatched sandaled shoes on house eves so they would be safeguarded against disease or misfortune. It is believed that if you wear these big Thatched Sandaled Shoes then demons will flee away terrified at your presence protecting this land. The deity enshrined within the temple grounds takes the form of an animal known as a tortoise which symbolizes eternal youthfulness. Prayers made there ask God to grant us all strength through our years ahead ensuring we live out our remaining lifespan without suffering any sickness but rather passing peacefully onto another plane when called upon to do so.
