This ancient Buddhist monastery located atop Doi Suthep Mountain offers stunning views over Chiang Mai’s cityscape some 3,500 feet above sea level. After visiting the mountaintop shrine, we continue towards the ethnic minority community at Doi Pui before returning back to your accommodation for relaxation.   The climb to reach the top consists of approximately 306 stairs; although an elevator system has been installed within recent years allowing visitors access without climbing these steep staircases, it remains popular among locals who consider ascending them as bringing about good fortune…  In northern Thailand, the Mien Yao group comprises mainly of two sub-groups known locally as “Blue Hmong” and “White Hmong”. These indigenous peoples originally migrated across the mighty Mekong river originating from what is now modern Lao PDR territory... Their traditional stilt house dwellings cluster together forming small communities where elders hold significant influence particularly amongst those living near older settlements controlled primarily by senior males overseeing multigenerational household units including adult children along with spouses and offspring.  Return to base camp around 2.30pm—3pm depending upon traffic conditions prevailing during travel through scenic countryside roadsides en route homewards.
