Marrakech to Sahara Desert Adventure
Itinerary:
Day 1: Marrakech - High Atlas Mountains - Ouarzazate - Merzouga (570 km) 9 hours
Your 3-day trip from Marrakech to Merzouga begins with pickup by your driver from Maroc Tours Company at your hotel/riad in Marrakech early in the morning at 7:00 AM. You’ll depart toward the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass with stops for panoramic views and photos of Berber villages and their breathtaking landscapes.
We then proceed to Ait Ben Haddou (fortified village), designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. Many famous films have been shot here, including *Game of Thrones*, *Gladiator*, and *The Mummy*.
Continuing on, we travel to Ouarzazate, known as the "Gateway to the Desert," before heading to the Draa Valley. Along the way, we stop to admire the valley’s beauty—it’s the longest valley in Morocco. The journey continues to Nkob, a small Berber village, where we pause for lunch. Afterward, we head deeper into the desert to reach the striking sand dunes of Merzouga, spending the night at a hotel with dinner and breakfast included.
Day 2: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi – Merzouga (Encountering Nomads)
After breakfast, embark on an adventure across the vast dunes via camelback or quad bike. Highlights include visiting two oases in Merzouga, the village of Khamlia (the home of the Gnawa people), Mifiss Mines, the desert plateau, meeting nomadic families, exploring Tissardmine Oasis, and returning to the hotel around three in the afternoon to participate in cultural activities like henna painting and traditional music performances under the stars.
